Dear Deputy Sheriff Association Board of Directors and Members,

On behalf of the American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) Region 147 in Ojai, I would like to thank you for your generous donation of $300.  With this money we can reach out to more kids in the Ojai Valley and get them to play soccer.  When they play soccer they learn important life skills such as team work, working hard, learning to win with good sportsmanship and lose with dignity.  The kids that you will help with your donation will be better citizens because of it.

Without your help we couldn't do what we do.

Thanks you so much.

On behalf of the Region 147 Board,

Mike Johnson

Old equipment and other important information…..

Equipment Return

In the past we always made an effort to collect some of the equipment back from one season to the next in an effort to keep overall equipment costs down.  However, last year we failed to organize a date to do so.  We know it’s late, but we are collecting as much of the old equipment back as possible.

To facilitate the collection of the old equipment we have designated a couple of drop off sites.  Any equipment you have can be dropped off by leaving the equipment on the porch of the following locations:

 Mike Johnson’s house:
11291 Oakcrest Ave. Ojai (off of Hwy 33 between Barbara and Willey.

Cheryl Fichera’s house:
1182 Lake Ave. Ojai (off of Woodland, Mira Monte Area)

Ann James:
884 Romano, Ojai (off of Rice Road and Camille Dr.)

You may also bring your equipment by the next registration, May 4 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Nordhoff High School or, you can drop off your equipment at the Nordhoff High School at the AYSO Shed on “Shed Cleaning day,” May 18, 9:00 AM to 12:00.

We need the equipment returned by May 17

More important information you might find helpful:

This coming month I’ll be calling all of last year coaches to see if you might be willing to coach for the 2013 season, and if so, what division you would like to coach.  I again want to thank you for coaching this last year and I’m hoping you might consider coaching again.  Without you, we couldn’t do what we do.

If you are willing to coach, and will be coaching an upper division team, U14 or above, Area 10 will be conducting training on the following dates: Intermediate U14 Training on August 10 and 11 in Camarillo and August 17 and 18 in Santa Barbara.

Division U8 Update

This year, in an effort to comply with National Guidelines, we will not have keepers in the U8 division, nor will we have a draft for that division.

NATIONAL GAMES:

Our region has put in bids (U10 through U16/19) for a spot for the AYSO National Games, to be held in Torrance California, June 29 through July 6 2014.  The Games will be held in Torrance (the home and birthplace of AYSO) in conjunction with AYSO’s 50th Anniversary.  The drawing for spots will be held at the AYSO National Convention on May 26, 2013.  I’m very excited about this one and hope we get a shot at being there.  If you are interested in more information about the National Games go to http://www.ayso.org/events/national_games.aspx

There will be more information on these items as they come up.  Feel free to check the Ojai AYSO calendar at http://www.ojaiayso.org/calendar.html for more information about the above items.

Again, thanks for helping last season, I am hopeful that you found the experience enjoyable and you might be willing assist us again.

For the kids…

Summer is around the corner and if you or your child are looking forward to a summer filled with hanging out with friends, trying new things, playing your favorite game or expressing your creativity the Ojai Recreation Department wants to help you "Make It Happen".

This summer the Ojai Recreation Department's Summer theme is "Make It Happen" because this is the place in Ojai where summer fun happens!  Their summer activity guide is now out and available to you and  your child with an amazing variety of options for your child this summer.  Activity Guides were distributed to Ojai Unified Elementary Schools and Sunset School in Oak View this week, look for the activity guide in your child's backpack within the next couple of days.  Their activity guide can also be found on their webpage, www.ojairec.com or  can be picked up at their office at Sarzotti Park.  They encourage you to pick up a copy of our Activities Guide and see how the Ojai Recreation Department can "Make It Happen" for you.  They are now accepting registration for all  summer programs in office and online on our webpage.

They are always trying new things here at the Ojai Recreation Department and below are a few new things that they want to highlight for you:

Extended Summer Swim Hours - Their participants have asked and we have made it happen, public and lap swim hours have been extended this summer.  Public and lap swim will now be open from 11:30am-3:00pm Monday through Thursday and for the first time will also be offered on Saturday from 1-4pm.  Each session is $5 per person.  Family or individual passes, which allow you to swim the entire summer, are $75 for a family and $35 for an individual.  All of their aquatics activities are held at the Villanova Preparatory School pool.

Extended Office Hours - In addition to being open Monday through Thursday the Recreation Department is now open on Fridays.  Their office hours are 8am to 5:30pm Monday through Thursday.

Drop In Dodgeball - They are now offering drop in dodgeball on Friday evenings from 5:30pm to 7:30pm in the Multi Purpose Room at the Recreation Department.  Each session is $3 per person.  Gather your friends and join in on the fun!

Facebook - They now have our own Facebook page.  Like them on Facebook to stay up to date and see pictures of what's happening here.  Follow this link to Like their page: www.facebook.com/ojairecreationdepartment

Rayven's Kids Coed Adult Softball Tournaments -  For the first time in a few years the Ojai Recreation Department will be hosting the Rayven's Kids Coed Adult Softball Tournaments once again.  The two tournaments help to support the Rayven's Kids Scholarship which is offered to children in need of financial aid when registering for Recreation Department activities.  To view the flyer go to the adult sports tab on their webpage.

If you need more information or have a question about any of their programs please give them a call at 646-5581x390.

We are invited!

You, your family, your team, and any individuals that played AYSO soccer this last year are invited to the first ever “Ojai AYSO Night” as the Nordhoff High School Women’s Varsity Soccer team takes on Santa Clara High School.

When:       Tuesday, January 8, 2012 at 5:15 PM
Where:
    Nordhoff High School Stadium
Cost:         Free

While it promises to be cold we would encourage all players to wear their jerseys to the game.

The first 8-10 players (preferably U10-and above) that arrive have the option of being “ball boys” or “ball girls” for the game. They will be positioned at different locations around the field to retrieve balls that leave the playing field during the game. I will be there to brief those players that want to participate in this manner. Players that want to participate in this manner should arrive about 20 minutes early and meet the AYSO banner hanging just inside the entrance.

Also, if the kids in attendance wish, they can have their jerseys signed by the Nordhoff players. There may be other surprises as well.

I know, with the exception of playoff teams and all-star teams, everyone else has disbanded and gone their different ways. However, this might be an excellent time to get your team back together for a small reunion and have them watch a quality game and, for some, participate to a small degree. It is my hope that this might inspire our younger players to continue to play the sport we love and consider playing at the high school level.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact me. If you find you have a group of players interested in being “ball boys” and “ball girls” let me know so I know how many to expect. We would like to make a good showing for this event and support the Lady Rangers in their first league game.
